Download Jotura.

Jotura is free, and you can start writing without making an account. The app doesn't track what you do or interrupt you with nag screens. If you later want the same notes on your laptop and your phone, optional sync signs you in with a code we email you.

Mac, Windows and Linux.

Paste one command into a terminal and Jotura opens on its own when the install finishes. On a Mac it lands straight in your Applications folder.

irm jotura.io/install.ps1 | iex

Press the Windows key, type PowerShell, and press Enter. A command window opens.
Click Copy on the command above, right click inside the PowerShell window to paste it, and press Enter.
If Windows asks whether to allow changes, choose Yes. Jotura opens by itself when the install finishes.

curl -fsSL jotura.io/install.sh | bash

On a Mac: press Command and Space together, type Terminal, and press Return. On Linux: open your terminal app, often Ctrl+Alt+T.
Click Copy on the command above, paste it into the terminal, and press Enter.
If it asks for your password, type the password you use to log in to your computer and press Enter. Nothing appears while you type, which is normal. Jotura opens when the install finishes.

The script fetches the latest release for your platform, checks it against its checksum before anything runs, and installs the app along with the jotura command line tool. From then on the app keeps itself up to date. You can read the whole script before you run it at install.sh, or install.ps1 for Windows.
